The emblematic contest for landscape designers and gardeners

Organized as part of the Paysalia trade show held from 30th November to 2nd December 2021 at Eurexpo, in Lyon, France, the Carré des Jardiniers highlights gardeners as artists through their achievements. The gardens brought to life by the finalist gardeners demonstrate the sector’s talents and promote the added-value of gardens designed by professionals to the general public. The Master Gardeners and all the finalists profit from the fame of the contest and its knock-on effects!

Laurent Gras became Master Gardener in 2019 when the theme was ‘The Village Square”.

The theme in 2021 : a garden for (gracious) living

For the 6th edition of the Carré des Jardiniers, candidates will have to imagine “A garden for (gracious) living”. Mankind truly aspires to see and feel greenery in towns, to cultivate it in the countryside, to nourish body and mind from plants. This union with nature is the only way to restore wellbeing and balance. Because vegetation is essential in awakening the senses and countering distress in town and country, gardens are places for (gracious) living, getting away from it all and being oneself. Since the dawn of time, gardens symbolise Mother Earth and Epicureanism. Nourishing, delightful and bountiful gardens resource the ecosystem and promote biodiversity. In gardens, nature regains its rights. In cities, gardens are in the vanguard of the fight against heat pockets, in the development of social bonding and the improvement of the quality of life. There is no doubt that the fertile imaginations of the Carré des Jardiniers contest candidates will explore every richness gardens can provide.

When gardeners decide to be permanent guests in cities, nature’s beauty, generosity and caring become stronger concepts. This is where they begin to mean something. Nature, the “bon vivant”, always cheerful and resourceful, brimfull of energy, force and good intentions is ready to invade the city to make life more peaceful and greater through social bonding. Always striving to find balance with new ways of doing things and new ways of exploring the world. Wisdom and humility are the quintessential qualities of good gardeners – and what makes everything joyful!
