Matthieu CARLA
Les Jardins de Matthieu (31)
WHO IS HE?
While still a student in the Animal Production program, Matthieu Carla started his own landscaping business. It was a bold move for the then 20-year-old, who simply wanted to work with the land and lend a hand to those around him. One thing led to another, and he honed his skills, specializing in landscape design and successfully growing his team.
Today, he and his wife run Les Jardins de Matthieu, which employs eight staff members and two apprentices in Cugnaux, just outside Toulouse. The priority of this family-run business is to offer each client a custom-designed landscape that meets their desires and needs while also blending seamlessly with the style of their home and the immediate surroundings of the garden.
The ultimate goal? To bring happiness and well-being to those who love spending time outdoors.
HER PROJECT: HANGING GARDEN
The goal of this initiative is to highlight and expand the scope of the landscape gardener’s work, enabling them to explore new avenues for creativity. Their task, therefore, is to collaborate with their industry to develop new approaches that integrate plants into every level of design. All of this work should raise awareness within our sector by bringing the construction industry and local governments closer together. It is our responsibility to take into account all the challenges facing the landscape of tomorrow and to successfully carry out the ecological transition, the green transition. The project we are presenting aims to look toward the future and demonstrate that our cities will no longer simply have green spaces; rather, they will become green spaces themselves. The objective of our project is to showcase new constructions using new materials, such as the construction of a wooden “building” using CLT technology—an acronym for “Cross-Laminated Timber”—which is a solid cross-laminated panel that can also be used by landscape architects to create utility rooms, trash rooms, garden sheds, or other structures according to their imagination.
