La Couleur des Jardins (57)

WHO IS HE?

From the moment he enrolled in a vocational high school program in landscape design, Simon Freitag developed a passion for the trade. After earning a BTS and a professional bachelor’s degree, he partnered with a friend he met during his studies, and together they founded “La Couleur des Jardins” in Moselle. Eight years later, the company employs around thirty people across two offices: one in Forbach and a second in Lutz, near Thionville. Firmly rooted in the Lorraine region, the teams at La Couleur des Jardins work primarily for private clients, for whom they design gardens from start to finish. For Simon, who nurtures relationships with his clients by presenting them with hand-drawn designs and supporting them over the long term, the art of gardening is cultivated by taking the time and embracing complementary disciplines: market gardening, interior design…

HIS PROJECT : LA VI’LL’E DE DEMAIN

Urbanization has its limits, nature has its rights, and humanity has its responsibilities. Our garden is designed to slow down the frantic pace of our lives by putting nature back at the center of our concerns, so we can enjoy its benefits. Let’s leave the city’s hustle and bustle behind as soon as we enter the garden, through a path that resembles a piano keyboard. Let each visitor find their own pace. Let’s banish the city’s odors with fragrant plants placed beneath grilles that resemble a subway entrance. Let’s give meaning to our creations. Let’s learn from the past to better build the future: a library symbolizing knowledge welcomes us into this garden; what actions has humanity taken on its environment? What should not be repeated, what needs to be changed, or conversely, in what direction should we persevere? Let’s take the time, and create a moment for sharing: thanks to the large semicircular bench built around an agora, inviting conversation. Counter the heat of urban materials with pockets of coolness: a green roof on buildings and a plant-covered pergola made of shade trees. Escape the grayness of asphalt through vegetation, which takes precedence over every urban material. Let’s make the space feel larger with a set of colorful mirrors mounted on the facades of buildings. Let’s encourage meditation through the soothing qualities of rainwater trickling from the roofs and filling the pond. If we give Nature back the place it deserves, it will repay us a hundredfold. Let’s give it time.
